Lieferando Offers Biodegradable Boxes to Select Restaurants for Food Delivery

Lieferando is supplying its partner restaurants with corrugated paper delivery boxes produced by Huhtamaki. These boxes feature Xampla’s Morro coating, derived from plant protein. They are claimed to be free of plastics and per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS), ensuring they are contact-safe. The boxes provide effective barriers against grease, water, and oxygen, and are both home-compostable and fully biodegradable at the end of their lifecycle.

As part of the market introduction, Lieferando is distributing 500 complimentary delivery boxes to selected restaurant partners in Hamburg, Essen, Munich, and Wiesloch, aiming to promote this new plastic-free solution and encourage broader adoption. Zipform Packaging Develops Paper Bottle with over 95% Fiber Content

Zipform Packaging has introduced a paper bottle composed of over 95% wood-based fiber, eliminating the need for a plastic liner and featuring more than 50% post-consumer recycled content. "Our technique applies a barrier layer without requiring a plastic liner. We utilize a technology akin to a print process to apply a very thin barrier coating," explained David Kilpatrick, the company's R&D, Quality & Innovation Director. This approach ensures the bottle maintains its liquid-holding properties while preserving its high fiber content. With barrier performance trials currently in progress, Zipform intends to collaborate with brand owners for market testing in the near future.
