Wood Raw Material Prices for Saw and Ply Mills—2009 through 2013

The five-year trend for chip-n-saw was also higher: $3.14 per ton over 2009 prices. For sawtimber, the trend was the reverse; sawtimber prices declined by $1.23 per ton over 2009 prices.
While the volume weighted average delivered price for all sawtimber in 2013 was $43.87 per ton, the following figure shows the price premium being paid for larger sawtimber (DBH higher than 17”) over smaller logs (DBH “13-17”). The average in 2013 for small sawtimber was $43.28 per ton ($0.77 per ton higher than 2012), and the average for large sawtimber was $48.11 per ton ($0.96 per ton higher than 2012). The volume weighted average delivered price for chip-n-saw in 2013 was $37.37 per ton.

Wood fuel pricing has remained remarkably steady over the last five years, trading between $19.46 and $20.65 per ton. The 2013 average delivered price increased by $0.45 per ton, though this is $0.22 less than the price in 2009.
