Southern Pine Lumber Exports to China Expand

Southern Pine lumber exports to China have increased 430 percent in the last five years, a result of a campaign conducted by the Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA) with funding from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service's (FAS) Market Access Program (MAP). SFPA used the funding to sponsor Southern Pine lumber exhibits at trade fairs and to translate technical product literature into Chinese.

The result, according to the SFPA, has been a dramatic increase in Southern Pine lumber exports to China; this year alone, that number is projected to reach $54 million, with pressure-treated Southern Pine lumber expected to reach $15 million. For lumber, that is a 1,000 percent increase over a five-year period and a 245 percent increase over the same period for pressure-treated lumber.
