News out of the PPI Awards that the Bringing Paper to Life – Innovative Printing & Writing Campaign of the Year was given to Domtar for its Paper Fun Truck will come as no surprise to those who are familiar with the company’s PAPERbecause campaign.
The PAPERbecause campaign is known for its application of humor to support the argument that using paper—for writing, doodling, working, installing new technology at home or ordering a meal in a restaurant--is an essential, convenient and meaningful part of human activity. Counter to proclamations that “paper is dead,” Domtar’s PAPERbecause campaign points out all the ways that human beings continue need paper products.
The Paper Fun Truck, the latest PAPERbecause effort, toured the streets of Los Angeles earlier this year. An ice cream truck decorated in colored pencils and other items fashioned from paper, the Paper Fun Truck visited schools, retirement communities, offices and even the beach, distributing paper items and writing instruments to those looking for a treat. According to reports, those on the receiving end were having fun, even without the ice cream.
In addition to the Paper Fun Truck, Domtar has produced a series of short videos as part of the PAPERbecause campaign. Here are a couple of my favorites. The first one is from the video series meant to demonstrate the value of paper in people’s everyday lives. The second comes from the video series that focused on people’s work lives.
What would we do without paper? If you have just a few minutes, take a look. (Click the videos to view.)
