The European PET Market Is Looking for a Clear Direction

Written by Javier Rivera | Sep 14, 2026, 2:04:01 PM

Expectations for lower PET prices have not materialized, as rising uncertainty continues to support higher raw material costs. There is limited room for price declines given low profitability, but weak demand, import pressure, and a well-supplied market are also limiting upside potential. Several planned PET outages are expected in Q4 2026.

EU PET imports from neighboring countries are expected to remain stable, but overall import volumes are likely to decline in early Q4. Asian import offers remain competitive but not sufficiently attractive, as higher PTA and MEG values support FOB quotations, while elevated freight costs and limited vessel availability continue to constrain import economics.

PET prices are expected to remain stable to firm in the coming weeks, with the direction largely dependent on raw material costs and developments in the Middle East.
