Oxo alcohol and plasticizer prices declined for several months as supply exceeded demand. In early July, higher crude and propylene costs lifted 2-ethylhexanol and supported a rebound in DOP and DOTP. By July 16, DOP and DOTP were assessed around RMB 8,350–8,800 per metric ton.
Liquid chlorine demand weakened after the seasonal peak, forcing producers to cut prices to manage inventories. EDC, VCM and PVC values also declined as feedstock costs and demand softened. Higher crude and ethylene prices generated only a modest PVC rebound in early July.
Flexible- and rigid-foam polyether polyol prices fell with propylene oxide before producers attempted increases in July. Buyers remained cautious in the seasonal slowdown, and transactions were limited to small, immediate-need volumes. Polyester polyols also remained oversupplied as weak synthetic-leather and footwear orders constrained purchasing.
Cost inflation can create temporary rebounds, but producers will need stronger downstream demand or disciplined operating rates to sustain them.
