Asia Aromatics Outlook 2026: Benzene, Toluene, Xylenes and Styrene Rebound

Written by Jane zhu | Aug 4, 2026, 3:46:49 PM

Asian aromatics markets rose sharply in July as crude strengthened, regional supply tightened and export opportunities improved, although downstream demand remained uneven.

Key Takeaways

  • Between July 7 and July 17, WTI and Brent futures rose sharply, increasing feedstock costs and strengthening sentiment across the aromatics chain.
  • Chinese benzene values rose as crude strengthened, several refineries entered maintenance and port inventories declined.
  • Asian toluene rose to about $900 per metric ton FOB Korea, supported by crude, North American gasoline blending demand and reduced production.

Crude and Geopolitical Risk Reset the Cost Base

Between July 7 and July 17, WTI and Brent futures rose sharply, increasing feedstock costs and strengthening sentiment across the aromatics chain.

Benzene: Maintenance and Low Inventories Added Support

Chinese benzene values rose as crude strengthened, several refineries entered maintenance and port inventories declined. Sinopec East China increased its posted benzene price from RMB 6,900 to RMB 8,000 per metric ton, while Asian spot benzene reached approximately $955 per metric ton FOB Korea.

Toluene and Xylenes Followed Energy Higher

Asian toluene rose to about $900 per metric ton FOB Korea, supported by crude, North American gasoline blending demand and reduced production. Isomer-grade mixed xylenes reached roughly $923 per metric ton FOB Korea. In China, xylene’s lower relative price increased its attractiveness for gasoline blending.

Styrene Recovered, but Margins Remained Weak

Asian styrene rose from approximately $974 per metric ton CFR China on July 7 to $1,115.50 by July 17. Chinese domestic offers also increased sharply. Yet styrene remained loss-making overall because demand from the major downstream styrenics sectors was still weak.

Trade Flows May Shift

Uncertainty around Middle East shipping created more export inquiries from India and Pakistan. Chinese styrene exports may increase, although total volumes could remain below the peaks reached in April and May.
